Defensive scenarios played under the rule of night are the most maddening — and most instructive — on the table. Sight is a hand's width, the line is thin, morale is paper.
Setup
A narrow front laced with trenches. The defender had to hold three points; the attacker crept in under the cover of night. Sight range was rolled for each turn.
The Turning Point
On the second turn the middle trench nearly emptied. The defending player threw the last reserve there; the gamble paid off. The assault lost its bearings in the dark, and momentum changed hands.
The Terminal's Note
In the dark the winner is not the one who fires the most, but the one who keeps a cool head. Hold your reserves to the last — night rewards the patient.
